Useful Information

Exports

Heavyweight Air Express own and operate warehousing facilities located at both London Heathrow and East Midlands Airport. The facilities at both locations are listed and approved by HMR&C to operate as Designated Export Place’s (DEP).

The DEP approval enables Heavyweight Air Express to process export entries and get the “OK to proceed” back from HM Revenue & Customs prior to delivering the cargo in to the airline.

At both locations we have the ability to complete all types of export declarations and have staff on site for the physical presentation of export licences, preference certificates, carnets etc, direct to the local customs office.

With daily shuttle runs into the freight communities at London Heathrow and East Midlands Airport we pride ourselves on providing the best level of service to our clients.

Imports

Heavyweight Air Express manages the complex nature of processing customs entries and acts as an interface between the customer and HM Revenue and Customs.

In December 2004, Heavyweight Air Express was granted authority by HM Revenue & Customs to start operating Enhanced Remote Transit Sheds at both London Heathrow and East Midlands Airport.

The Enhanced Remote Transit Shed (ERTS) approval allows us to extract import consignments from the airline which have not been cleared through customs and provide short term storage.

Clearance of these shipments can then be done at a later stage, either by a member of our experienced customs clearance department, or alternatively we will arrange to nominate the inventory record to another local agent of your choice for your chosen agent to clear.

The overwhelming benefit to our customers is the avoidance of incurring the much higher import storage charges levied by airlines.

The use of our deferment account (fee applicable) provides importers with a quick and simple way of paying any applicable import duties and taxes to HM Revenue and Customs at time of cargo arrival, thus not delaying the release of your shipment.
Heavyweight Air Express can also offer a complete to door service by arranging the delivery of your shipment once cleared to anywhere on in the UK, either by means of our groupage network (please see tariff), or for more urgent shipments by means a dedicated direct drive (POA).

Community Transit

Heavyweight Air Express Ltd has been granted approval by HMR&C to operate as authorised consignor and consignee at both our London Heathrow and East Midlands Airport facilities.

With direct links to the New Community Transit System we can offer to our customers the following benefits:

Authorised Consignor:

  • Declare goods to Community Transit (CT) without presenting them at the office of departure.
  • Remove goods under customs control directly from their authorised location. This could be the authorised consignor’s own premises or an approved customs facility such as a warehouse, a Designated Export Place (DEP), Enhanced Remote Transit Shed (ERTS) or other temporary storage facility.
  • Automatic "time-out" release to move the goods is available (provided that no control decision is taken by the Office of Departure). This may, depending upon the conditions of authorisation, be outside of the normal opening hours of the office of departure.
  • The TAD and, where applicable, the list of Items, is printed at the Consignor’s premises, and will be automatically authenticated by the system.
  • Once the transit procedure has ended, the authorised consignor will be informed electronically.

We can also lodge an electronic declaration to the Office of Departure on the NCTS system.

The NCTS will automatically accept the declaration and generate the unique Movement Reference Number (MRN).

Authorised Consignee

  • The goods and TAD do not need to be presented at the office of destination.
  • The authorised consignee can receive the goods directly to an authorised location which may be the authorised consignee’s own premises, a port/airport or other approved place such as a customs warehouse, ERTS or other temporary storage facility.
  • Automatic "time-out" permission to unload the goods is available (provided that the goods are not selected for control by the office of destination). This may, depending upon the conditions of authorisation, be outside of the normal opening hours of the office of destination.

We submit an electronic arrival notification and unloading remarks messages on the NCTS.

Customs Procedure Codes

A Customs Procedure Code (CPC) is used for both imports and exports to identify the nature of the movement of the goods. It is made up of three pairs of numbers and each pair identifies the applied procedure, the previous procedure (if applicable) and further classifies the nature of the movement.

These sets are fully explained in Volume 3, Appendix E of the Customs Tariff and the full 6 digit CPC’s are detailed in Appendix E1 (Exports) and Appendix E2 (Imports). Once the correct procedure code has been determined the CPC should be quoted in box 37 of the SAD (C88) at both imports and exports.

Further information on Customs Procedures Codes can be obtain by clicking on the following links:

Commodity Codes

When trading internationally, you will need to find the correct commodity code for your goods so that we can fill out customs paperwork accurately. The code is an eight-digit number for exports outside the EU or goods moving within the EU, but is a ten-digit number for imports from outside the EU. Once you know the commodity code, you can look up other important information such as duty rates and any import or export restrictions.

EORI Registration

All commercial importers must have a unique EORI number. Those that do not currently have one, will have to obtain one from HM Revenue and Customs. For all Private Importations, however, GBPR will be shown.

In order to obtain an EORI number, you must submit an application form. There are two ways you can apply, either by hard copy or electronically by email. Whichever method you choose the application form must be fully completed and signed by a responsible person within your business, ie director, partner or sole proprietor. If the information you provide is incomplete or inaccurate we will either return the application form to you or telephone to obtain the correct information.

The application form is available as a version that can be completed either:

Electronically: You will need to download and save the correct application form (C220 for VAT register, and C220a, for those who are not VAT registered) as a Word document and complete the form as required. You will then need to email the completed application form, together with any scanned supporting documents, if you have completed section B, to the EORI team in Cardiff via turn@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk.

Please note: HM Revenue and Customs will not accept hard or faxed copies of supporting documents for electronic applications.

Manually: You will need to print off the application form (C220A) or obtain a form by telephoning the National Advice Service on 0845 010 9000. You must complete the form and send it by post, together with any supporting documents if you have completed section B, to the EORI processing team at the following address:

HM Revenue & Customs - EORI Team
13th Floor South Government Buildings
Ty Glas
Llanishen
Cardiff CF14 5FP

The EORI application should normally be processed within one working day of receipt by the EORI Team. However, It will take a further day to update in CHIEF and the EU EORI systems.

We strongly recommend that you submit your EORI application well in advance of when you wish to use the EORI number to avoid delays at import or export.
